We use a range of gentle, effective preservation methods to ensure every formula stays fresh, stable, and safe. Preservatives play a crucial role in skincare-they protect products from bacteria, mould, and yeast, keeping them reliable from the first use to the last.
Not all products need preserving. Anything without water-known as anhydrous formulations-naturally resists microbial growth. This includes our facial oils, exfoliating crystals, and powdered masks. With no water present, there’s no environment for bacteria to thrive.
For our water-based and lotion-style products, we rely on a selection of nature-aligned and low-impact preservatives:
Lemon Myrtle Extract
A natural tincture where Lemon Myrtle is steeped in organic alcohol. It’s this alcohol component that provides preservation while keeping the extract pure and aromatic.
Aloe Vera Extract
Like Lemon Myrtle, our Aloe Vera Extract is a tincture preserved in organic alcohol, offering both protection and skin-soothing benefits.
Hydroxymethylglycinate
A gentle, effective option derived from glycine (a naturally occurring amino acid). Used at only 0.5%, it keeps formulas stable while leaving plenty of room for active ingredients.
Leuconostoc
Ferment Filtrate
A radish-root ferment that not only preserves but also helps support skin hydration.
Aspen Bark
A naturally derived preservative sourced from North American Aspen trees, valued for its antimicrobial properties.
Potassium Sorbate
A salt-based preservative commonly used in food. Mild, non-toxic, and non-sensitising, it fits beautifully into natural skincare.
Phenoxyethanol
A widely used, low-concentration preservative that helps maintain product integrity and safety.
